The Team

All the COMMUNICATE therapists are experienced and skilled in treating all communication difficulties. We also have further training in specific areas dependent on our specialist interests.

COMMUNICATE therapists are registered with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, Health and Care Professions Council and have clear Enhanced DBS checks.

It was Emma's frustration with not being able to offer families and schools what they really needed that led her to set up Communicate and ensure that the best therapists, with a variety of skills and special interestst were part of the Communicate team to offer a wholly personalised service to everyone.

Emma's experience is across nearly all paediatric settings but her specialism and post-graduate training is in cleft lip & palate and voice disorders.  Her additional job is as a Lecturer in Speech & Language Therapy at the University of East Anglia. 

As well as managing Communicate and being an Elklan trainer, Emma has additional training in: 
• Speech sound disorders
• Cleft lip and palate
• Voice disorders

Hannah Bedford : Deputy Speech and Language Therapist & Head of Training

Hannah's role with Communicate involves devising and running the majority of our training sessions as well as helping Emma to support the team.  She brings to Communicate a number of years of experience with both the NHS and Local Authority working with children with language disorders as her specialism.

As well as organising our training and being an Elklan trainer, she has additional training in:

• The Listening Program
• Hanen
• Lidcome Programme & Palin PCI

Bethan has spent most of her career in adult learning difficulties and autism.  She came to us having led the speech and language therapy team at Autism Anglia and her specialism is in autism.

As well as being our Makaton tutor, she also has additional training in:

Gemma organises and runs our Communicake! Group (FREE speech and language advice and play group) on a regular basis. Her main interest is in pre-school communication difficulties.

Jo acts as our co-ordination lead, pulling everything together seamlessly for our families, schools and us as a team. As Zoe takes her maternity leave, you will be speaking to Jo when you initially enquire too.

Jo is particularly passionate about working with bilingual families and those needing a more holistic approach.

Jo works part-time with us and is our specialist for paediatric complex needs but also works with any of our adult clients with progressive neurological conditions.

Zoe co-ordinates all of our outreach activities, from student placements to our free parent group and is our social media guru.  If you make an enquiry, typically it's Zoe who will initially contact you to talk you through everything.  

As well as being our friendly face, she has a specialism in hearing impairment and additional training in:
• Hearing Impairment
• BSL and Signalong
• The Solihull Approach
